Welcome to Mosborough Primary School

Eco Page

Thinking about and looking after our school's environment is an important part of the work we do at Mosborough and since moving to our new site we have undertaken numerous projects that have led to improvements.

Over a two years ago we set out to become an ECO school and have established an Eco Committee whose job is to think about ways of improving our environment and making the best use of our natural resources.
Over the last four years we have:
Planted over 3000 trees and shrubs in the local community, developed our own wildlife garden complete with composting facilities, planted over 1000 wildflowers, collected paper from each class for recycling, set up a bird box complete with internal camera to view birds nesting, looked after some Highland cattle in a field next to the school and worked with local environmental and conservation groups.
In January 2005 our school was awarded an ECO SCHOOL Bronze Award and in October a Silver Award. Our Eco Committee shown here with Parent Governor Hazel Crooks are now planning to work towards getting the 'Green Flag' award.
As a result of us achieving our ECO Schools Award, Sheffield City Council presented us with a cheque for £500 to help develop our work in this area. With some of the money we have bought and planted shrubs that will attract butterflies and other insects in our wildlife garden.
Our current projects involve:

*Linking with Onyx to provide paper recycling bins for all the classes in school.

*Creating vegetable beds in the school garden.

*Installing another bird box with a colour camera to observe more birds nesting.
